Kids' Eye Care Services

In addition to her optometric education, Dr. Irina Perelman underwent a Visual Therapy internship at SUNY College of Optometry. As part of an eye exam, she conducts a thorough pediatric visual analysis on all child patients at her office, since undetected visual problems in children may lead to eyestrain, headaches and reduced school performance.

At Better Sight Vision Center, Dr. Perelman tests her child patients for refractive error (near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism), reading eye strain problems, lazy eye, eye turn, eye movement deficiencies, color vision deficiencies, vision-related learning disorders, eye allergies, blepharitis (lid dandruff), pink eye, eye injuries, child melingering (pretending to want glasses for socio-emotional reasons) and more.

Children may have visual problems and concerns related to their overall visual and non-visual development. Learning disabilities in children may be accompanied by visual problems. Dr. Perelman is proficient in detecting these issues and making proper recommendations and referrals. She is experienced with conducting eye examinations of children with special needs, including autism spectrum disorders.
